Who we are

The Cumbria Combined Authority (CCA) is a new partnership of Cumbria’s two unitary councils. Cumberland Council and Westmorland and Furness Council working for the whole county.

An elected Mayor (from May 2027) will lead the team, which will include local council leaders. We will focus on one goal: improving Cumbria. Bringing more jobs, better transport, housing, and opportunity to our area. We’re not a replacement for your unitary councils. We’re here to ensure that big decisions for Cumbria are made locally.

A board will govern the CCA and bring everyone together. It will include the Mayor and representatives from each constituent council. They will make decisions on plans and investments that affect the county. This unified approach ensures that both parts of Cumbria have equal say in the new authority's direction. When Cumbria negotiates with national government and partners, it will speak with one voice.
